Network Function Virtualization (NFV) is becoming a common term in the tech community, but what does it mean and why is it important? This seminar will open the door to understanding this important technology, NFV’s role in current networks and it relationship with and Software Defined Networking (SDN). Different NFV applications and vendor approaches to NFV will be investigated. Use cases from CENGN’s ecosystem will also be presented.
Module 1 – NFV Overview
After completing this module, the learner will be able to: Define NFV; Explain the need for NFV in today’s networks; List pros and cons of NFV; Describe ETSI-defined NFV architecture.
- What is NFV?
- The Need for NFV
- NFV Pros and Cons
- NFV Standards
Module 2 – NFV Use Cases
After completing this module, the learner will be able to: List technologies required to build NFV platform; Explain various use cases of NFV in today’s networks (Data Center and Service Provider networks)
- NFV Technology Platform
- NFV in Data Center
- NFV in Service Provider Networks
Module 3 – NFV Open Source Communities
After completing this module, the learner will be able to: Describe the role of the OPNFV and ONAP communities in the NFV space
Module 4 – NFV Technical Insights
After completing this module, the learner will be able to: Describe how SDN and NFV work together; Discuss the deployment of network services with TOSCA templates; List tools and techniques to improve performance of NFV system; Explain service function chaining of network services
