The Next Generation Network Program (NGNP) supports the development and implementation of ultra-high-speed digital infrastructure. The program is offered through a partnership between the Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks (CENGN) and Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), working on behalf of the Government of Ontario.
The NGNP offers Ontario’s small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startups and academia unprecedented access to the CENGN testbed for. Infrastructure is provided in the form of cloud tenancy, hardware hosting and bare metal services. Professional services such as project management and engineering support is also provided. Startup projects include — but are not limited to — demonstrations, proof-of-concepts, interoperability, scale and stress tests.
MaRS provides eligible startups access to the Ontario Smart Infrastructure Testbed (OSIT), an open, cloud-based platform for industry collaboration. Housed at MaRS and funded by CENGN, the OSIT helps businesses, researchers and entrepreneurs develop new products and services to tackle societal challenges. MaRS also provides participants business support services, all with the goal of growing the economy, making a positive social impact, and attracting the best talent and global companies to Ontario.
This July 18, you’re invited to MaRS to learn more about the NGNP benefits and offerings. This session will explain how businesses can leverage CENGN’s network infrastructure and technical expertise to commercialize their products and solutions. Topics of discussion include:
- how the NGNP can help you prepare for a push to market;
- what constitutes an appropriate CENGN project, with specific examples of past projects;
- how to get started and what to expect along the way; and
- different funding sources available for companies to carry out a project.
One-on-one meetings will be available after the event and will be scheduled on a first-come first-serve basis. You will receive an email with additional details upon signing up.
In support of developing their technologies, eligible startups receive:
- access to the OSIT and other world-class infrastructure;
- MaRS business support services to raise capital, increase customer bases and attract talent;
- marketing support in the form of social media and white-paper success stories.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
In order to qualify, participants must:
- be a Canadian technology company or wholly-owned Canadian subsidiary;
- have fewer than 500 employees; and
- have products and services at the innovation and development phase.
Please be advised that this event is for small- and medium-sized enterprises, startups and academia only. Organizations that do not fit the above criteria will be removed from the event.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Robert McMillan, business engineering manager, CENGN
Robert has an extensive background in the telecommunications industry. His areas of focus include wireless, satellite, wireline and VoIP communication systems. He uses his knowledge of the ICT industry and experience as an entrepreneur to empower companies through CENGN’s diverse services.
Prior to joining CENGN, Robert was director of monitor technologies at Motorola.
