Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks, or CENGN, as it is known, is a consortium of industry, academic and research leaders dedicated to accelerating the commercialization of next generation communication solutions. Its headquarters are located in Ottawa Canada. Some of the companies that are part of the consortium include: Alcatel-Lucent, Allstream, BTI Systems, Cisco, EWA Canada, EXFO, Invest Ottawa, JDSU, Juniper Networks and Mistral Ventures.
A few days ago one of the consortium members announced that CENGN has selected EXFO Xtract Open Analytics Platform to provide near real-time visualization of the health and performance of CENGNs advanced lab and network. Although EXFO has only been a consortium member for nine months, it was founded in Quebec City, Canada in 1985.
According to Claudio Mazzuca, who is vice president of transport and service assurance for EXFO, “EXFO Xtract is building momentum in Canada; it has already been installed at two of Canada’s largest telecom carriers and now at CENGN. Contract wins and installations in the United States are growing rapidly and we are expecting to expand sales of this solution into Tier 1 and 2 mobile and fixed networks in Europe and Asia-Pacific through the latter half of 2015.”
EXFO Xtract is a monitoring platform that collects, analyzes, correlates and reports on current, past, and potential future events in the network. It is designed to provide network operators with a clear and manageable view of their infrastructure so that they can avoid potential outages, as well as help control their networks to ensure they are receiving the performance they need.
CENGN’s CEO, Ritch Dusome, made the following comments, “Given the highly dynamic nature of CENGNs lab and network due to the various projects being simultaneously performed by our fast-growing list of members, partners and SME clients, it is vital to have visibility into the lab and network performance at all times. From the onset our lab was designed to be multi-tenant with numerous PoCs and testing happening at the same time. It is critical to continually monitor the lab and network and EXFO Xtract will let us know immediately if we encounter any issues.”
