Kontron Joins CENGN Consortium as Newest Partner

Ottawa, Canada Thursday June 16, 2016 – CENGN, Canada’s Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks (NGN), a leader in the rapid commercialization of NGN products, applications and services, today announced that Kontron has joined as the consortium’s newest Partner.

The partnership between the two companies will utilize CENGN’s lab infrastructure and SDN/ NFV engineering expertise, along with Kontron’s SYMKLOUD state-of-the-art blade servers to develop the 1st pod of a new OPNFV Pharos Community Lab.

Once complete, the CENGN OPNFV Pharos lab will provide a NFV testing infrastructure to facilitate collaborative testing and accelerate the introduction of new products and services using NFV.

“As an associate member of OPNFV, we are thrilled to be hosting the only OPNFV Pharos Lab in Canada” says CENGN President and CEO, Ritch Dusome “With the help of partners like Kontron and the addition of their SYMKLOUD server/ switch platform, we are confident that this lab will be one of the best in the world.”

Kontron’s newest product SYMKLOUD is a massively scalable SDN/NFV- enabled converged cloud infrastructure platform. It combines compute, storage, and dual 10GbE networking into a single, high-density modular 2U platform. As a hybrid design approach, Kontron addresses the need of providing CSPs with freedom to choose from any number of value-add on options with the SYMKLOUD. As an NFV and SDN platform, SYMKLOUD offers service providers an interesting mix and match of choices of x86 silicon, switching (10G, 40G, SDN), and middleware/cloud orchestration solutions (Red Hat, Wind River Titanium, Ubuntu, Mirantis, CloudBand, etc) plus a growing list of partners for pre-tested VNF solutions.

“Kontron is extremely pleased to be working with CENGN on the Pharos Lab,” said Benoit Robert, Strategy and Marketing, Kontron. “There is immense opportunity in this collaboration to manifest powerful and innovative NFV infrastructure that can truly be a game changer for the communication service provider industry.”

Besides Pharos, CENGN is also an active participant in other OPNFV projects such as JOID and StorPerf.
