On October 24, CENGN industry association, OPNFV, consolidated three years of community collaboration with the release of OPNFV Euphrates.

The Open Platform for Network Functions Virtualization (OPNFV) is a multi-collaborative project that facilitates the development and deployment of the NFV reference platform within the open source networking community. Since its inception, OPNFV has been working to enhance NFV Infrastructure through improved testing, containers, new features and so on. With the launch of OPNFV​ ​Euphrates​, the platform ​has taken​ ​a​ ​step​ ​forward​ ​in functionality, ​​interoperability​ ​and​ ​performance​ ​to​ ​help​ ​operators​ ​advance​ ​network​ ​transformation via​ ​open​ ​source​ ​NFV.

OPNFV’s fifth release has come at a time when the demand for next generation technologies like NFV and VNF keeps expanding. Developers are constantly seeking out a comprehensive platform for test automation, NFV Proof of Concepts, creation of DevOps methodologies among other functionalities. Euphrates represents a direct response to these needs, ​delivering​ ​Kubernetes​ ​integration,​ ​cross-community​ ​continuous​ ​integration​ ​(XCI)​ ​and new​ ​carrier-grade​ ​features​ ​such​ ​as​ ​increased​ ​visibility​ ​into​ ​complex​ ​virtualized​ ​networks.​ ​Also included​ ​are​ ​new​ ​test​ ​projects ​and​ ​numerous​ ​other​ ​improvements​ ​in​ ​testing,​ ​MANO ​integration, service​ ​assurance,​ ​performance,​ ​and​ ​security.

As the first associate member of OPNFV, CENGN has developed a strong working relationship with the OPNFV community over the years. This partnership has resulted in many innovative past projects including Fast Data Stacks, JOID, Storperf and the creation of Canada’s only Pharos Lab hosted at CENGN.
