Cheetah Networks is a newly formed network performance monitoring company from Ottawa. Cheetah has developed a software solution called iTAP made up of intelligent software agents designed to provide network operators with real-time insight into the issues that affect the quality of experience in their networks. Cheetah networks is currently in the research and development phase of their business and has come to CENGN to test and validate the functionality of their initial iTAP software to help identify improvement opportunities early in the lifecycle. Throughout this network application project, Cheetah Networks will receive a dedicated cloud tenancy on CENGN’s OpenStack infrastructure along with technical and project management to attain the third-party validation and exposure needed to move their product from R&D to market.
The Creation of Cheetah Networks
Michael McCallen, Founder and CEO of Cheetah Networks, is no stranger to the ICT sector having worked in the industry for over 30 years. Holding executive positions with Nortel and Viavi Solutions (formerly JDSU) in the areas of R&D and business development, he brings not only a wealth of experience, but some highly talented engineers to his new business. Michael created Cheetah Networks to provide network managers with a micro sensor-based solution, called iTAP, to gain real time visibility into the network and access to in the moment network performance analytics.
iTAP Network Monitoring
Cheetah Networks’ iTAP is a real-time network monitoring performance system allowing businesses to stay on top of the operations of their network. In today’s networking environment, the optimization of deployment and service level assurance of networks is monitored with delayed analytics and human supervision. Cheetah Networks helps network operators avoid the pitfall of ‘business as usual’, by monitoring operating systems in real-time. With iTAP, companies uncover issues and inefficiencies within their infrastructure before they become serious problems for the network and the rest of the organization.
Cheetah Networks’ iTAP is a real-time automated network monitoring solution that gives network managers complete visibility. It’s designed to provide insights and analysis to network operators by monitoring a company’s network capabilities to identify and mark what areas can be improved. iTAP monitors, troubleshoots, and isolates wounded areas of your network using predictive analytics to ensure optimal performance and reduce support costs. The product measures the bandwidth, latency, and the throughput of your network leaving behind a miniscule footprint on your resources. In fact, iTAP’s micro footprint approach minimizes the impact on other services and transports service traffic with latency granularity as low as a millisecond.
Cheetah’s software solution is not only fast but versatile as well. iTAP’s portable architecture is easily deployed on a wide-variety of OS platforms and devices. The advantage of iTAP’s ability to be deployed on both large servers and small devices is that it suits the needs of many types of businesses including service providers, auto manufacturers, and other enterprises.
Testing the Functionality of iTAP
In order to test the functionality of their software solution, Cheetah will deploy iTAP on our CENGN Testbed infrastructure. The project will validate all of iTAP’s many features, using the iTAP agent to monitor traffic generated by an iPerf network tool. iTAP will measure the bandwidth, throughput, latency, jitter, data loss, along with many other variables on the CENGN Testbed to prove that iTAP is ready for deployment in a real-world customer environment.
Cheetah Networks is another example of CENGN providing the resources, technical support, and project management to a Canadian start-up that will progress them from the R&D phase to commercialization. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) often have great solutions but lack the track record of success from past clients to propel them to the next level. By testing iTAP on CENGN’s infrastructure, Cheetah Networks will gain virtual environment exposure, third-party validation, project test results, and further insight into the functionality of their solution. Adding a completed CENGN project to their resume will enhance Cheetah Networks’ business development and provide them with exposure to the CENGN’s large networking community for potential business and partnership opportunities.
Beyond network applications, CENGN works with Canadian SMEs to validate next generation networking solutions in SDN/NFV/SD-WAN, Internet of Things, data centre and cloud, cybersecurity, mobile networks, and network transport.
