Fujitsu Network Communications Announced as Newest Member of CENGN Consortium

Ottawa, Canada, and Richardson, TX USA, January 13, 2016CENGN, Canada’s Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks (NGN), a leader in the rapid commercialization of NGN products, applications and services, and Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., today announced that Fujitsu Network Communications has joined as the consortium’s newest member.

CENGN is a consortium of industry, academic and research leaders dedicated to accelerating the commercialization of next generation communications solutions.  CENGN’s fully operational multi-vendor data centre houses an OpenStack production  environment connected to a real world WAN enabling connectivity speeds of more than 100Gbps.  This unique environment is used to validate and test the performance and interoperability of proof-of-concept (PoC) end to end solutions based on emerging network technologies such as SDN and NFV.

“Fujitsu will be a great addition to our membership,” says Ritch Dusome CENGN President and CEO. “CENGN is aligning the global leaders in SDN and NFV solutions and Fujitsu will provide significant value considering their NGN expertise, technical competencies, and robust product and development environment.  This global collaboration is required to accelerate the development and introduction of new SDN and NFV products and services.”

CENGN’s members are responsible for over $11 Billion in R&D worldwide and have a proven track record in commercialization. Fujitsu will join the consortium of industry leaders including Alcatel-Lucent, Allstream, BTI Systems, Cisco, EWA Canada, EXFO, Invest Ottawa, Juniper, Mistral Ventures, Rogers, TELUS and Viavi.

“Fujitsu is thrilled to be partnering with CENGN to accelerate SDN and NFV commercialization,” said Igor Bergman, Vice President and head of the software business unit at Fujitsu Network Communications.  “The communications network industry is changing in ways that will have far-reaching effects on service providers, as networks become more dynamic, virtualized and automated. We are pleased to help lead this transition with our software solutions and expertise, and strong heritage in communications technology leadership.”

Fujitsu is already collaborating with CENGN members on a Proof of Concept (PoC) for Multi-layer Data Connectivity Orchestration. This project will demonstrate a true end-to-end multi-layer SDN orchestration of an MPLS-based WAN over Optical infrastructure, allowing real-time operations across multi-vendor platforms.
